Welcome
Hold Your Horses is an Illinois nonprofit that connects children and teens (ages 5 to 18 years old) impacted by trauma to specialized equine-assisted therapy to help them move forward in their healing journey. We bridge the gap for families with limited resources by offering financial assistance to unique healing opportunities through horse-assisted mental health therapy that would otherwise not be possible.

The Need
Amidst a rising therapy shortage, vulnerable populations cannot receive the therapeutic services they need. According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation in 2023, nearly 15% of children and teens in Illinois were living below the federal poverty line. Many of these kids have experienced severe trauma for which equine therapy is particularly effective for healing, but they cannot access it, let alone afford it. This is where Hold Your Horses steps in to provide funding for eligible children and teens to receive equine therapy services in Illinois.
Get Involved
Equine therapy is all about partnership — healing cannot happen alone. The participant, horse, and therapist all play equally important roles in
bringing transformation. We believe the same is true for the mission of Hold Your Horses. Check out the opportunities to join us!
