The Need
There is a growing mental crisis, particularly among children and teens, in the state of Illinois and the nation as a whole. Equine therapy is one of the life-changing therapeutic services that many who have experienced deep trauma cannot financially access.
That is where Hold Your Horses comes in to fill the gap. We help provide the funding that makes equine therapy possible for a marginalized and vulnerable population.
How We Help
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES)
In 2023, the Illinois Department of Public Health identified that 38% of children experienced at least one traumatic event in childhood that has lasting impacts on their mental, physical, and emotional health. ¹

Studies show kids can experience reduced anxiety, depression, physical complaints, and an increase in regulated behaviors, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Overcome ACES Through
Equine Therapy
Mental Health Crisis
Several studies show the benefits of equine-assisted psychotherapy for trauma survivors and those who need more than traditional talk therapy alone.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, children's mental health continues to be a national emergency four years after it was first declared. ²
Supporting Mental Health
Under-Resourced Families
Approximately 390,309 children in Illinois live below the federal poverty line.
In Illinois, 29% of children under the age of 17 are living in extreme poverty. ³

For many children and teens in Illinois, access to equine therapy is limited, and there is a need for financial support to make this unique therapeutic experience available.
By providing the necessary funding and connections to equine therapists, we help this vulnerable and marginalized population.
